The Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the greatest sources of grace available to Catholics. The Church strongly encourages frequent (at least monthly) reception of this sacrament.
As Catholics, we are strictly commanded by the Church to confess our sins once a year, if we have mortal sin to confess. It is necessary for any Catholic who has committed a mortal sin to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving Holy Communion.
Jesus wholeheartedly invites us to receive His mercy and His grace through His minister in this sacrament of mercy.
"In the life of the body a man is sometimes sick, and unless he takes medicine, he will die. Even so in the spiritual life a man is sick on account of sin. For that reason he needs medicine so that he may be restored to health; and this grace is bestowed in the Sacrament of Penance."
- St. Thomas Aquinas
